Thefts on the Rise – Police Department Offering Prevention Resources

The Paso Robles Police Department is actively investigating multiple commercial, residential, and automobile burglaries which have increased within the last month. Between the dates of April 1, 2009 and May 13, 2009, the City has investigated 40 unsolved theft related cases, to include:

  • 10 Thefts from Automobiles
  • 11 Residential Burglaries
  • 19 Commercial Burglaries
    • Including (6) six “window smash” style burglaries in and around the City’s downtown core.

The suspect (s) committing the downtown burglaries are entering businesses by smashing the windows or prying doors open. Once inside the businesses the suspect (s) is primarily attempting to take cash from registers and then leaving quickly.

In addition to following up on tips, Police personnel are working hard to make a visible presence in identified neighborhoods and commercial areas to prevent burglaries. Detectives are currently conducting follow up investigations and addressing new leads.

Additionally, the Paso Robles Police Department is working closely with neighborhood residents and downtown business owners discussing crime prevention and precautionary measures. The Paso Robles Police Department will host a free seminar offering crime prevention tips on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 7:30am – 8:30am at Park Cinemas, 1100 Pine Street. All those interested in receiving valuable information related to theft prevention are encouraged to attend.

Persons with information about these crimes are encouraged to contact the PRPD with information. Those wishing to remain anonymous who have information about these crimes, or other crimes, are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers 24-hour hotline at 549-STOP (Toll free from within San Luis Obispo County, 1-800-549-STOP).
